Yenyi Joseph Chiang
Oil Painter | Art Educator
Born in Hualien, Taiwan in 1980, Yenyi Joseph Chiang moved to Belize in 1995, then pursued advanced studies in the United States in 2003, graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with a degree in Painting. His artistic journey spanning Taiwan, the US, and Central America has shaped a uniquely multicultural perspective on art.
During his early years in Belize, Yenyi demonstrated remarkable artistic talent. He was commissioned by the Belizean government to design "The Visible Hand," a commemorative sculpture for Belize's 20th Independence anniversary and Taiwan-Belize friendship. Selected among Belize's "Top 20 Outstanding Artists," his works have been exhibited extensively in the US, Taiwan, and Central America. He also served as illustrator for Cubola Publishing. After returning to Taiwan in 2012, he settled in Tamsui, dedicating himself to oil painting and art education, founding the "Yenyi Joseph Chiang Studio."
"Brushstrokes are the traces of a painter's soul."
Yenyi's artistic foundation draws from two major traditions: the Impressionist masters, especially Monet's masterful capture of light, and the profound philosophical depth of Eastern ink painting. Inspired by Monet's late Water Lilies series—where seemingly free brushwork conceals precise technique—and the bold splash-ink landscapes of Zhang Daqian, Yenyi seeks to recreate this timeless dialogue on canvas. He uses Western oil pigments to express the fluidity of Eastern calligraphy, and Impressionist light and color to carry the serene introspection of literati painting.
